Language Skills

Developing strong language skills will help your child improve in all academic studies.  The language skills most often addressed in the tutorial sessions include:

  • Cursive Handwriting
  • Word Identification/Decoding unfamiliar words
  • Awareness of the Phonetic aspects of language/Spelling
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Vocabulary Development
  • Composition of written sentences and structured paragraphs
  • Abstract Reasoning/Critical Thinking

The Orton-Gillingham remedial approach, a sequential, alphabetic, phonetic method which uses a multi-sensory approach to the learning of language, is used extensively whenever appropriate.  Using visual, auditory, and kinesthetic modalities in an integrated way, the Orton-Gillingham approach requires much repetition in order to make new skills automatic.
